Winthrop Chanler Rutherfurd (February 4, 1862 – March 19, 1944) was an American socialite from New York, best known for his romance with Consuelo Vanderbilt and his marriage to Lucy Mercer, mistress to American President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Consuelo Vanderbilt, conosciuta anche come Consuelo, duchessa di Marlborough e Consuelo Balsan (New York, 2 marzo 1877 – Southampton, 6 dicembre 1964), era un membro importante della famiglia statunitense Vanderbilt. Il suo matrimonio con il IX Duca di Marlborough fu un caso notevole di matrimoni socialmente vantaggiosi nella Gilded Age.
